How Churnahead works

Last updated 1 November 2026

Churnahead is an early warning for subscription churn. It connects to your billing provider with read-only access, scores every paying customer from what the billing data already shows, and sends you a short list each morning: who is likely to cancel, why, and one thing to do about each. It never writes to your billing account and never contacts your customers.

In one minute

  1. Connect billing. Connect Stripe in one click (read-only scope) or paste a restricted key. Paddle and Lemon Squeezy connect with an API key. See read-only access.
  2. The first sync runs. Customers, subscriptions, invoices, charges, refunds, disputes and card expiry dates are read. The 90 days before you connected are rebuilt from history, so every account has a full risk timeline on day one.
  3. Every account gets a score. Rules add points for things like a scheduled cancellation, a failed payment, a card about to expire or a shrinking invoice. 50 or more is high risk, 25 or more is medium. Each rule explains itself in plain words. See signals.
  4. The backtest reports. The same rules are replayed over your last twelve months of churn, so you can see how many of the customers who left would have been flagged, and how many days early. See the backtest.
  5. The morning list arrives. At eight, by email and Slack, with the at-risk accounts, the reason each is flagged, and links to mark it contacted, saved or snoozed without signing in. See digest and alerts.
  6. Outcomes close themselves. Thirty days after you mark an account contacted, it becomes saved if the customer still pays and churned if not. The dashboard keeps revenue saved and lost over the last 30 days.

What it reads

Billing data only, unless you choose to send product usage events too. From Stripe: customers, subscriptions, invoices, charges, refunds, disputes, payment method brand and expiry, and the reason and feedback a customer gave when cancelling through the Customer Portal. Never full card numbers or bank details. Paddle and Lemon Squeezy provide a subset; what they don’t record stays quiet rather than guessed. See Stripe, Paddle and Lemon Squeezy.

What it sends

To you, never to your customers:

  • A digest every morning on paid plans, every Monday on Free, skipped when nothing is at risk.
  • Instant alerts when a cancellation is scheduled or a payment fails (Stripe, with the one-click connection or a webhook), and when an account moves up to high risk.
  • Drafts. On any account, a short email to that customer written from why they are flagged and what you have recorded, in your own tone if you paste a few emails you have sent before. You read it, edit it and send it from your own mailbox. Nothing is sent from Churnahead.

What else is in the dashboard

  • At-risk list with a “getting worse” view: accounts whose score rose this week, biggest rise first.
  • Account page with the 90-day risk timeline, the day each signal started or stopped, notes and outcomes.
  • Why they left: the last twelve months of churn split into card failures, disputes and real cancellations, the reasons customers gave, what churned customers had in common, and the month of tenure when most of them leave.
  • Win back: everyone who left in the last twelve months, grouped by reason, each with a first-draft message.
  • Revenue: a renewal forecast weighted by risk, big renewals coming up, MRR movements and retention, cohorts, expansion candidates and customers on legacy prices.
  • Rule lab: write your own rules from plan, tenure, revenue, seats, discount and failed payments, and see how they would have done on your history before they score anyone.
  • Team: invite up to 25 people, give accounts an owner, and an audit log of who changed what.
